Quick Checks
- Find your exact model number — you'll find it on the printer's front panel (e.g., Canon PIXMA TS3520, Canon imageCLASS MF455dw)
- Always download drivers from usa.canon.com — third-party sites often bundle unwanted software
- Canon drivers for Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 are usually the same package — if you don't see a Windows 11 option, select Windows 10 64-bit
- For wireless setup, install the driver before connecting the printer to Wi-Fi — the installer walks you through network configuration
- Chromebooks work with Canon printers through the built-in Chrome OS printing system and do not need a separate driver
Canon Printer Model Lines and Their Drivers
Canon organizes its consumer and small-business printers into three main families. Each uses a different driver ecosystem.
Canon PIXMA is Canon's home and photo printing line. The PIXMA TS series (TS3520, TS6420a, TS8620) and PIXMA TR series (TR4720, TR8620a) are the most popular. PIXMA printers use Canon's "MP Drivers" package, which includes both the print driver and the scan driver (ScanGear) in a single download. Photo-focused PIXMA models also include Canon's My Image Garden software for photo editing and printing.
Canon imageCLASS covers laser printers and laser all-in-ones for home offices and small businesses. The imageCLASS MF455dw, MF656Cdw, LBP236dw, and MF113w are widely used. imageCLASS printers use Canon's UFR II or CARPS2 print driver, plus a separate scan driver for models with a scanner. The UFR II driver is Canon's equivalent of a universal driver — it works across multiple imageCLASS models.
Canon MAXIFY targets small and medium businesses with high-volume inkjet printing. The MAXIFY GX7020 (MegaTank) and MAXIFY MB5420 are popular models. MAXIFY drivers include full network printing support, fax driver, and scan utilities.
Canon also makes large-format imagePROGRAF printers for professionals, but these use specialized drivers not covered in this guide.

- Open Device Manager → Print queues → right-click any Canon printer → Uninstall device
- Restart your computer

For printing from a computer, you still need the desktop driver from Canon's support site.
Method 3: Windows Update (Basic Driver)
Windows includes basic Canon drivers for many models:
The Windows-supplied driver handles basic printing but does not include Canon's scan software, borderless printing options, or photo printing modes. For full functionality, use the driver from Canon's site.
Method 4: macOS Automatic Installation
macOS includes built-in Canon drivers for most current models:
Apple maintains a Canon printer driver package (currently v3.4 as of late 2025) that covers most PIXMA and imageCLASS models. If your printer isn't listed, download the driver directly from Canon's support site.
Fix Canon Printer Driver Issues
Canon Printer Not Recognized After Driver Install
If you installed the driver but Windows doesn't detect the printer:
Driver Downloaded but Won't Install
Canon's driver installer occasionally fails if an older Canon driver is partially installed:
Scan Driver Not Included
On some Canon models, the scan driver (ScanGear or IJ Scan Utility) is a separate download from the print driver:
Printer Works From Phone but Not From Computer
This means the printer hardware and Wi-Fi connection are fine — the issue is on the computer side:
